WHAT SHOULD WE WEAR TO OUR FAMILY PHOTO SESSION?

First it depends on if your shoot is indoor or outdoor and what time of year. You don't want to look like you're freezing or drenched in sweat - so we recommend dressing weather appropriate and comfortable. And since Cleveland weather is a little crazy - you might want some back up layering options for last minute weather changes. We also find it's a good idea to coordinate colors for the photoshoot. However, it's not ideal to have every outfit exactly match. Instead we recommend that you coordinate neutral shades of a color. Like Navy, light blue and white with a color accent like red. Or neutral grays with denim and a pop of a muted color. For maternity photo sessions, we recommend the expecting mother wear more natural, neutral colors like white, cream and pale colored laces and cottons. Seasons also play a role in color choices for photoshoots. Typically the fall leaves look best with warm colors like browns, oranges, deep yellows, golds, maroons and dark purples or egg plants. Summer is a beautiful time to mix white with denim and grey and pops of bright colors. Winter looks lovely with warm plaids, reds and navy. We recommend getting inspired online by looking at seasonal family portraits to see what color schemes grab your eye. Below we selected some of our favorite color coordinated photo shoots from Liza Sue Productions. Lay out the clothes together on the bed and see how they look as a collection. Don't be afraid to use accessories like necklaces, ties, suspenders, hats, layered shirts and sweaters for the guys and fun shoes! If you have enough time - utilize the internet for amazing deals on kids clothes that aren't as readily available in stores - especially if you're going for a timeless vintage look. And always feel free to shoot us a text with a photo of your idea if you need feedback - we love helping your vision come together for the most memorable family photos!

WHAT IF THE WEATHER IS BAD FOR THE DAY OF THE PHOTO SHOOT?

If we're scheduling an outdoor session, we'll be watching the weather closely as your day arrives and get in touch the day before to reschedule if necessary. We want the best results for your special pictures! We never charge additional for rebooking due to bad weather if your photographer recommends it.

WHEN DO WE GET OUR PHOTOS BACK?

Our typical delivery time is a 2-3 week turn around - but in most cases we're happy to offer you a rush fee and can even do next day turn around in some cases!

DO YOU RETOUCH THE PHOTOS?

We pride ourselves in capturing the most flattering angles and lighting people in the most flattering way. However, sometimes we know blemishes show up or our insecurities bother us. That's why we always offer you our Photoshop Editing Packages to add onto any services. We always recommend that you first see the shots before requesting edits - as you might be surprised just how beautiful you really are! (Pricing details listed above.)

WHAT LOCATION SHOULD WE CHOSE FOR OUR FAMILY / MATERNITY PHOTOSHOOT?

We love brainstorming with our clients to come up with the perfect location. For Maternity shoots we love being in nature as it really captures the maternal essence. For family portraits we love shooting you in an environment that is personal to you and your family! We’d love to first hear your final vision for the shoot - are you looking for something casual and you often hike in the CVNP with the family or do you love going downtown together? Or maybe being in your home is something you cherish and want to be in your space for the photoshoot. Your house can make the perfect backdrop for shoot that will forever capture where your kids grew up. Whatever your idea is - we'd love to work with you. And if you're feeling lost - we'll happily brainstorm and give you some of our popular locations that include - wide open fields, private lakes, wooded areas, Stan Hywett for timeless dramatic landscapes and gardens, The Hyatt if it's winter and cold. Our home studio is also available and set against a beautiful forest as a backdrop, which looks especially magical covered in snow, when the leaves are changing or in spring/summer. And of course, the seasons play a role in the selection of your photo location. Especially for family and children photo sessions we want to be mindful of what will keep the kids the most comfortable so we don't always recommend outdoors if it's especially cold - unless you're okay with warm jackets and layers! We're happy to always work with you and our service area includes locations up to 30 minute drive outside of Richfield Ohio. We do offer further distanced location shoots for an additional fee.

YOUR HOME Can be the perfect backdrop for your family portraits!

Your family will appreciate the comforts of staying home for the shoot and love capturing memories of the space your family most gathers - your house! Outdoor shoots are great on the front porch and depending on your setting the backyard can also work. Sometimes, depending on the amount of natural window light, indoor shots can also work.

Huntington Beach

GPS ADDRESS - 28492-28648 Lake Rd, Bay Village, OH 44140

Huntington Beach is a beautiful location for family portraits in the Spring, Summer and Fall. The backdrops include cliffs, rocks, Lake Erie Beach, trees, fences, swings & stair cases. The backdrops are highly dynamic and look best shot within 2 hours of sunset. The cons to this location are that the sand can be a nuisance, weather needs to cooperate and sometimes you have to wait for people to exit your shot. But overall this is an amazing West Side of Cleveland location for family or children portraits.

$$ Stan Hywett Gardens - Akron (rental fee’s may apply)

GPS ADDRESS - 714 N Portage Path, Akron, OH 44303

Stan Hywett may be the most iconic family backdrop in Akron Ohio. There’s almost no place more grand or dynamic in backdrops which include - multiple flower gardens, the infamous white birch bath, incredible grape vineyard row, Japenes gardens, English mirror pooled gardens, the incredible Manor, balconies, views of the valley and so much more! The pros are that the scenery is so grand and diverse you feel like you’re in a movie. The cons are that there’s both admission fees, people to work around and if you do not buy their photo pass (additional $200-$250) you may be asked to leave the premises! Overall it’s one of the grandest places to shoot especially if you’re budget allows you to cover the rental fee.

Edgewater Beach - Cleveland Ohio

6500 Cleveland Memorial Shoreway, Cleveland, OH 44102

This spot is amazing for sandy beach family portraits during the golden hour. It provides a simple skyline with beach and water, willow trees, and 2 skylines including Clevelands iconic downtown buildings. There’s also boulders and large trees which provide a variety of settings all in the same location! Pros to this location are that it’s free and you get a mix of backdrops including water, nature, a massive willow tree, beach and the famous Cleveland skyline! This is also a great location for classic nighttime photo session if you’re lucky enough to get a colorful sunset! Cons are it can be crowded during warmer months and the bugs and sand can be a nuisance but are well worth the results if the sun is shining. This location is ideally shot within 2 hours of sunset if you’re willing to work around nature and sometimes crowds. Not recommended when there’s events going on or on hot weekend beach-going days as it will be packed!

Lock 29 Trail Head & Bike Path

ADDRESS - 1648 Mill St W, Peninsula, OH 44264

Lock 29 Trail head is one of our favorite Family Portrait locations to shoot! It has so many scenic options all in one location including Rail Road tracks, multiple bridges, pathways, woods, train cars (sometimes!), an old train station, a lock with cool stone & ivy walls, a large creek, boulders and more! The pros are the amazing diversity in backdrops, it’s free and open to the public. The cons are this is a busy bike path and you sometimes have to wait for bikers to go around you especially when shooting on the bridge itself, also the parking lot get’s full - but not to worry there’s additional parking in an over-flow parking lot beside Terry’s Lumber. It’s centrally located in Peninsula, Ohio between Akron & Cleveland in the heart of the Cuyahoga National Park behind the Winking Lizard Tavern. A favorite spot for summer, spring or fall family portrait sessions!

Everett Covered Bridge

ADDRESS - 2370 Everett Rd, Peninsula, OH 44264

This location offers a variety of beautiful backdrops including fields, steps, pathways, woods, a creek and of course a picturesque covered bridge! It’s great all year round. Pros - it’s free! Con’s - can be busy with other people so you have to wait to get certain shots without strangers in the background.

$ Voinovich Bicentennial Park - Downtown Cleveland great for sunset! (parking fees apply)

800 E 9th Street Pier, Cleveland, OH 44114

This location is awesome for sunsets! You also get amazing City-scape backdrops, Lake Erie backdrops, The famous “Cleveland” sign, steps and even some trees! Pros - it’s great for backlit images and has diverse scenery. Cons - there’s a small parking fee and it can be crowded. If you’re super fans of Cleveland this could be the perfect family photo location if you want to capture the Cleveland sign.

$$ The Hyatt - Downtown Cleveland (rental fee’s may apply)

GPS ADDRESS - 420 Superior Ave E, Cleveland, OH 44114

The Old Arcade or the Hyatt offers one of the best indoor scenes for senior photos to take indoors if it’s freezing out! The architecture offers beautiful staircases, classical architecture, dramatic and glamorous sets with gold and grand balconys throughout. The pros to this location are that’s heated in winter, divers in beautiful architecture, offers large natural light through the windows on roof and grand scenery. The cons are that you are not technically allowed to shoot without purchasing a photo pass. You will find many photographers daily though sneaking in their photoshoots. You can always contact the Hyatt to purchase a photo pass for a guaranteed beautiful set that’s all yours!

The Old Collesium - Richfield Ohio

2923 Streetsboro Road Richfield, OH 44286

This is one of the most natural and beautiful fields for sunset family & children portraits! This gorgeous location blooms different flowers throughout the seasons and provides dramatic natural field backdrops which really shine at sunset for any family portrait session. The pros to this location are that it’s pretty isolated and free with no admission fees. The cons are that it’s limited to fields backdrops and one tree - albeit - beautiful, there’s no bathroom for changing, no parking lot but plenty of curb pull-off room along the field. Also, bugs, mud & scratchy weeds require thoughtful foot/ leg wear & bug spray to keep yourself protected. This is one of those iconic spaces that captures nature in it’s purest form at sunset for senior pictures!
